The 2013 Mustang will prove polarizing, distancing some and bringing in others.

The 2013 Mustang grows a snout but cleans up its act. This will be a great car to see in person. Join me as I will bring to the table this new Mustang evaluation and what the future may be in the evolution. For now, one step at a time, let's keep things simple. Stay tuned!

Toyota's GT-86 is tomorrows everything sports car.

Just when you thought that the answer to just about every car related question is Miata, Toyota and Subaru come around and smack your mother with the GT-86/BRZ.

This little section is being left to dedicate a special little segment to the current and future of the next great Japanese toss-able toy car. Should be interesting, look out Road Atlanta, Autocross parking lots and Drift Races abound, this little sprite is about to make some serious headway.

Most people will still be wondering; So how do we get a V8 in there?

Check out these pictures from the Rennsport Reunion, an awesome festival of Porsche love and racing of all ages, of Porsche that is. Some seriously beautiful Porsches of all ages. I wasn't able to attend the event, you could say that I had an inside man! No seriously I would like to say thanks to a co-worker who was out in California to attend the event in California at Mazda Raceway - Laguna Seca! Thanks Rick! These are some awesome pictures of gorgeous Porsches on one of the greatest race tracks in the US. Yep, I said it, real Porsches on a real racetrack, these aren't your local Porsche posers, these guys are the real deal. I applaud those who drove and attended such a cool event!

Viper Tops List of Ultimate Rides!

While making up my list, I thought to myself over and over that I could include any of hundreds. So I wanted to focus on the most realistic vehicles that achieve beyond their means and perform a few weight classes above. So this is what I could come up with, a comprehensive list of cars that I would love to see in my dream garage. The only change would be that the Ford Raptor is the truck I'd take over the Chevrolet, it's just that the truck series is so epic that I had to list it as the selection. I even had a tough time with the Ford GT and the Acura NSX. Even a harder time leaving off as many as I did.

There may be faster, there for sure is more expensive and exotic. But this is my list. If I had only three slots, it is a very odd coincidence that Ford would take top honors with a hat trick of the Ford GT, Mustang Boss and SVT Raptor. But I'll always be looking for a Viper. As a back up, I'll take the Acura NSX, BMW 1M Coupe, Audi RS4 and 454 SS.

See how difficult this becomes!?! It's an endless cycle.

The list: A short list of ultimates. My list of automobiles that I have swirling around that I feel are the best at what they do, why, and mostly comprised of cars that could be had at almost any lifestyle.

Some honorable mentions, a few may or may not even get posted so add to if you like. Nothing as elaborate as you might think but more of a practical list of cars that are just down right worth the drive at any age.

The List

  1. Dodge Viper - Honorable Mention: Aston Martin DBS, Corvette Z06
  2. New Mustang Boss 302 - Honorable Mention: BMW M3/1M Coupe, Mk3 Toyota Supra, R34 Skyline
  3. Ford GT - Honorable Mention: Acura NSX, Audi R8
  4. Mini Cooper S - Honorable Mention: Acura Integra Type R, Mazdaspeed 3
  5. Audi RS4 Avant - Tie - Cadillac CTS-V - Honorable Mention: BMW 540i Estate
  6. 88-98 Chevrolet C/K Pickup - Honorable Mention: Ford Raptor, 1 Ton Dodge Ram Cummins
  7. Porsche Cayman S  - Honorable Mention: Lotus Elise, Toyota MR2 Turbo
  8. Mazda 2 - Honorable Mention: Ford Fiesta, Honda Fit

Slow car fast or fast car slow?

Well, like the title says, it seems like most enthusiasts would argue that the most fun you can have on four wheels is flogging a lower powered vehicle to and beyond its limits as opposed to never reaching the limits of a much more potent car. Ever wonder why Kart racing is so popular? Well, it's a tiny frame with a powerful little motor and you can run full throttle almost all the time. Besides it's a great learning tool

Jalopnik recently ran an article about driving a slow car fast versus driving a fast car slow or at least that was the general response to an article asking what the best slow cars were. What I have observed in the military is that when your vehicle is underpowered the only way to drive is wide open. With under powered diesel engines and incredibly heavy armored bodies giving it all she's got just isn't that much at all. But it sure felt like you were giving it hell. All the sounds and movements, vibrations and shimmy gives the brain a higher sense of awareness for actions not really happening nearly as fast as it actually seems.

So long story short, if you've ever tried driving the wheels off of a Dodge Omni in high school, you might understand why power isn't always the answer to every situation. Unless you're in the mud. And in that case I think back to an article about home grown rally cars and having just enough power to get you into trouble but not enough to get you out. In that case, you might just have to get little more oomph.

Which brings me right round [baby right round] to the new Spec B class of racing being sanctioned in 2012 by just about every sanctioning body. Inside Line reports about the Mazda 2 and Honda Fit here. I must say that these racing series are actually a great thing for spectators, enthusiasts, race teams and young racers looking to work their way through the ranks and get some visibility. Specs on the racers are similar but the price is capped at $25,000 per car. Mini Cooper has joined the ranks of Honda, Mazda and Fiat with a Cooper race car. Check out the Jalopnik coverage here and maybe chime in on what you would like to see on the future of the series? Do you think this could save racing in the States? Or does it seem too good to be true?
